Breathing Exercises for Skiing / Snow
Skiing combines cold, often thin air with bursts of hard work that are over before your breathing catches up. Holding your breath through a hard section of moguls or the top of a steep pitch is common, and tiring.
Safety first
At altitude, keep breath holds and the rapid round short and gentle, and stop at any dizziness — the air already has less oxygen.
How to use them
Use nasal breathing on long, steady runs and skinning climbs, so the cold air is warmed and your pace stays sustainable. Pursed-Lip Recovery brings your breathing back at the bottom of a hard run. The 30-breath rapid round wakes you up before a race or a big line, and the Start-Line Reset calms you down for it.
New to this? Start with Wim Hof Style Breathing: 30 deep breaths followed by a retention. Energising and resilient.
