Bilateral Swimmer Breath
Performance · Intermediate · 8 rounds
3-stroke breathing pattern for balanced freestyle.
Breathing every 3rd stroke alternates sides, balancing shoulder rotation and reducing asymmetry. The 4-count exhale underwater fully empties the lungs before the next inhale.
How to practice
- Inhale (Side) for 1 seconds (through the mouth)
- Hold (3 strokes) for 3 seconds
- Exhale (Underwater) for 4 seconds (nose or mouth)
Benefits
- Balanced stroke
- Symmetric shoulder load
- Better body roll
- Improved sighting
When to practice
Use in all freestyle drills and steady sets.
